Wake Me Up When September Ends

Like my Mother’s come to pass
Two years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
– Heartbroken since 9/17/15 –

Little did I know back in 2004 when Green Day released the song Wake Me Up When September ends, that it would become more than just an emo song I’d sing along to in High School. It would be added to the soundtrack of my life. Billie Joe Armstrong wrote the song 20 years after losing his Father to cancer when he was 10 years old. 20 years later, the pain was as strong as the day his Dad died. You can feel it in the song. I felt the sorrow every time I heard it even though I didn’t know firsthand what the pain of losing a parent felt like. Now I do. So please, wake me up when September ends.

‘Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends’

– Green Day –
